Terminator has always been one of my favorite franchises. Its had its ups and downs, but in 2008, McG brought it back from its once defunct storyline that Terminator 3 left out in the rain. Personally, Christian Bale is a fine actor and he performs admirably in this film, but Sam Worthington steals the show. Sam plays Marcus Wright, a death row inmate who signs up for an experiment conducted by Cyberdyne Systems in 2003. Not knowing his true self once back from the dead, he sets out to find John Conner, leader of the Resistance against the machines. Too bad he’s a machine himself.

I loved every minute of this movie. Its what you expected from a Terminator movie, and what you didn’t expect. Following the story of John Conner in 2018 after Judgement Day, we FINALLY get to see what the world looks like after the machines have scorched the earth. From day 1 that I heard that Bale was to play the prophet of humanity John Conner, I thought, “Damn, that’s perfect”, because he was. But Sam Worthington was so much better. Before seeing this film, I had always shrugged a shoulder at McG’s talent. But he made Worthington into something that I had never seen before, a lost, out of place character so far confused that he didn’t know up from down into the savior of humanity with a purpose in life.

A few things that I loved were the cameos. Linda Hamilton reprises her role as John’s mother, but only as a voice recording that he listened to better learn his purpose. YES, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back, but only as a CGI face on a body builder’s body, but the appearance made the T-800 so much more nostalgic. The ending was exactly what I expected to see: not the end of Skynet, but the continuation of the war for human survival. In no way is this movie AMAZING, but it certainly is badass. If you’re looking for a fun summer blockbuster movie, check Salvation out.
