Rocketman Review

First off, I have to say that I’m a huge music fan. I pretty much grew up on the music from the 70’ and ’80s. Last year, we got Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic of Freddie Mercury and Queen, a movie which I really enjoyed. When I heard about Elton John’s biopic was coming to the big screen, I had a feeling that it was going to shoot for the stars as only we can expect from Elton himself.

Rocketman, directed by Dexter Fletcher (who also was brought in to finish Bohemian Rhapsody), the fantasy musical drama story of Elton John from his beginnings as a child with family issues through the earlier years of his career and to his comeback from his addictions to drugs and alcohol.

Elton John is played by Taron Egerton (who was required to sing and not lip-synch) and his portrayal and performance of Elton is something special and should get attention when it comes award time. Taron is also joined by Jamie Bell as Elton’s writing partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as John Reid who was Elton’s manager & love interest and Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton’s mother, Sheila Dwight. The supporting cast does a fantastic job with their performances but it’s Taron that steals the show.

Rocketman is a great musical film that should be seen on the big screen. I can hear a few people around me singing along with Taron when telling Elton’s story. I have to admit, I wanted to sing along as well. Rocketman soars into theaters Friday.
