Interview with the creator of IlustraStudios, Jose Mojica

1. What inspired you to start making costumes/accessories?
   
   It all started almost by chance. I was a bit tired of my old job as a decorator. I started creating masks. What I was clear about was that I wanted to offer 100% of my art. So, I devoted myself to creating professional masks and props.
   
2. How long have you been designing materials for cosplay?
   
   I think it’s been 5 years now.
   
3. What advice would you give to other aspiring cosplay designers?
   
   Always give your best, not settling for doing something good. You have to surpass that barrier.
   
4. What costume have you enjoyed designing the most?
   
   We’re now starting with full costumes and I love the comic book costume. We have a professional designer working for us to create costumes.
   
5. How long does it take to complete a costume?
   
   People don’t really appreciate that. The level of quality we give to our finishes. We create many tests and prototypes until the costume is the way we want it. It takes a lot of time, we’re talking about months of hard work.
   
6. What is your favorite part of your job?
   
   Creating, and sculpting is a pleasure for me.
   
7. Do you have any habits that help (or hinder) your creativity?
   
   A habit of mine is that when something doesn’t work out, I usually put the project aside. Then the ideas come back to my mind like crazy after a few days.
   
8. Are there any common complaints that clients ask or make?
   
   In general, no. We have achieved a great clientele that values our work a lot. That makes me even prouder and makes me work even harder.
   
9. Have you ever been concerned that someone will copy one of your unique costumes (V3 T800, V3 Magnetic Punisher)?
   
   They do, and a lot. Chinese and Russian people, but with mediocre finishes, nothing professional.
   
10. Which designers are you most influenced by?
    
    For me, Volpin props are the undisputed number 1. It has inspired me a lot.
