Seven friends reunite for a Juneteenth celebration and find themselves trapped with a killer who Is seeking retribution for past events.
The comedy definitely outweighs the horror aspect. It is over shadowed by an overarching social commentary which can feel a bit heavy handed in some regards. The story although cliché, is elevated by the acting and the fun that all involved are having. The characters are endearing and you feel for them as they are pitted against the odds.
The pacing dragged on which unfortunately made it seem like a two-hour movie instead of its run time of one hour and thirty-six minutes. The film would have benefitted by staying focused around the game itself as it would have challenged the characters, leaving opportunity for growth. Instead, it devolved into a cat and mouse chase with very little stakes.
The best aspects of the film came from the fun that the cast were having along with their chemistry. There were moments of quick wit and comedy resonated with the audience. All in all, this would have been a perfect film for streaming.
